Help us keep you safe by following all AEW safety advice. Up-to-date information will be available on our website, at reception or from your teacher.
Fire alarm
If you hear a fire alarm, follow instructions given by your teacher and our Fire Marshals.
If you would find it difficult to get out of a building quickly in an emergency, you will need to speak to your teacher. They will complete a Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan (PEEP) with you.
If an accident happens or you see something that could cause an accident, tell your teacher quickly.
Do not smoke or vape in our buildings or on our site.
Lockdown
If we need to lock down the buildings for your safety, you will hear the following message:
“This area is now in Lockdown. There is a critical incident in progress. Find a place of safety, get out of sight and remain silent until you are informed that the incident is over”.
You will also see the word 'Lockdown' on your laptop or Smart screen and you can download an app so you can receive the message on your
mobile phone.
You must respond to the messages quickly and calmly and follow the 3 safety principles of RUN, HIDE, TELL.
- if you are in a corridor, foyer or public space, RUN to a safe place. Leave your belongings and do not go back to your classroom
- if you cannot run or if you are already in a secure place, classroom, office or toilet HIDE. Be quiet, silence your phone, lock or barricade yourself in and stay out of sight of windows and doors
- only when it is safe to do so, TELL. Call the police on 999. Identify your location and give as much information as you can. This will not be part of any drill
- stay in the safe space until you hear or see the 'ALL CLEAR'
message
Lockdown: Invacuation
A Lockdown Invacuation is a response to an immediate threat outside the buildings in the local vicinity which requires all staff and students to remain in the building, or if outside, to re-enter the building for safety reasons. Entrances and exits will then be secured, e.g., a civil disorder incident in the local area.
- messages will be visual, audio and by mobile phone, the message will say:
‘we are now in Lockdown. Can all students and staff make their
way immediately into the nearest building’
- you must enter the nearest building quickly
- all entrances will be secured and you can continue to move about the building as normal
- when it is safe, you will hear or see the ‘ALL CLEAR’ message
Evacuation
An evacuation is where you will need to leave a building as quickly as possible, similar to a fire evacuation. Reasons may include a bomb threat, gas leak or suspicious package.
- messages will be visual, audio and by mobile phone, the message will say:
‘there is a critical incident. Please exit the building by your nearest exit as quickly and calmly as possible and make your way to the assembly point. Do not re-enter the building until you are informed to do so’
- you must leave the building as quickly and calmly as you can and wait at the fire assembly point
- a Lead Fire Marshall or Senior Manager will tell you when it is safe to return
There will be regular drills so that you are fully prepared in the
unlikely event any of these should happen. |
