Accessing Support for Exams

AEW follows the Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ) regulations and guidance when we make access arrangements and reasonable adjustments for examinations.

Every request is treated separately. Adjustments might include additional time, rest breaks, exam papers in large text, a reader, or a scribe.

Exam adjustments or concessions will need to be approved by our Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo) before the exam takes place. Your teacher will record the classroom support you are having as your normal way of working in your ILP and request reasonable adjustments.

Our SENCo will work with your teacher to ensure you receive the support you need and advise on the exam adjustments or concessions that are available and appropriate. Your teacher will need to provide practice assessments as evidence and you may need to provide medical evidence or have a further assessment before the support is approved.

If you are taking a GCSE exam, approval must be obtained directly from JCQ.

We will assess your current needs if you have had access arrangements or reasonable adjustments for exams at another provider.
