Your safety is important to us. We want you to feel safe. We have processes in place to make sure Adult Education Wolverhampton is a safe place to learn.

If there is something worrying you about the safety or wellbeing of yourself or someone else, contact our Safeguarding Team for advice (see Contact your Safeguarding Team for details).

ID badges and door entry

It is important that you always wear your ID badge while on site. ID badges will give enrolled students access to enter parts of our buildings on our main site. This is to keep you safe.

If you have any problems using your ID badge to gain entry, please go to reception or after 5pm, phone the Site Services Team on 01902 558175.

Preventing extremism and exploitation

To protect you against people with extreme ideas we promote British Values:

• democracy
• rule of law
• individual liberty
• mutual respect and tolerance of different faiths and beliefs

We also expect all our staff, students and visitors to promote these values.

There can be different reasons why a person becomes at risk of becoming radicalised. It can be quick or take time. These can be some of the reasons:

• life changes
• looking for an identity, belonging, status or excitement
• being at risk of being influenced or controlled, or wanting to control other people
• feeling a sense of grievance, injustice or being under threat
• feeling a need for political or moral change
• mental health issues
• being secretive about social networking contacts

Someone who is being or has been radicalised may show the following signs:

• depression
• changes to the way they look
• become arrogant
• become quieter
• repeat a subject
• use unfair and biased language
• use limited or the same language
• have new friends that are influencing them to behave differently

Current threats from extremist groups in Wolverhampton include: Islamist extremists (these groups believe in an extreme version of Islam by opposing democracy, promoting hate and carrying out violence and terrorism), right-wing extremists (these groups believe in white people being better than others, they support violence and target non-white people).If you think you or someone else is being radicalised, please speak to our Safeguarding Team for advice (see Contact your Safeguarding Team for details).
